{"id":18,"date":"2009-03-21T08:54:30","date_gmt":"2009-03-21T00:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/?p=18"},"modified":"2009-08-10T10:13:18","modified_gmt":"2009-08-10T02:13:18","slug":"seedlings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/2009\/03\/seedlings\/","title":{"rendered":"Seedlings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s getting warmer.\u00a0 The loquats are yellowing, the stone fruit have leaves, the citrus season is done, for us anyhow.\u00a0 It&#8217;s time to think about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solanogarden.org\/\">garden<\/a>.\u00a0 Actually, it may be a month late.\u00a0 In what may be my fourth community garden in four different zones in the past seven years or so I feel like I need to relearn the planting schedule.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t always start your peas on the Feast of Saint Joseph like we did when I was a child.\u00a0 We actually planted them in November.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s what I planted in a 50 flat container:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>10 Tomatoes (a pack of mixed heirlom seeds from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fedcoseeds.com\/\">Fedco<\/a> packed for the 2004! season)<\/li>\n<li>4 Purple Beauty Sweet Peppers (from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.territorialseed.com\/\">Territorial Seeds<\/a> for the 2006 season when we were trying to have a purple garden)<\/li>\n<li>3 Early Jalepenos (from Botanical Interests, packed for the 2007 season)<\/li>\n<li>3 Sandia A Peppers (an Anaheim type from Lake Valley Seeds packed for 2007)<\/li>\n<li>3 Swallow Eggplant (an early variety, again from Fedco for 2004)<\/li>\n<li>3 Fairy Tale Eggplant (from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnnyseeds.com\/\"> Johnny&#8217;s<\/a> for 2008)<\/li>\n<li>2 Bush Delicata (2006, Territorial)<\/li>\n<li>2 chives (the more I have the more I use, from Renee&#8217;s Garden for 2008)<\/li>\n<li>4 Charentais Melon (from Lake Valley.\u00a0 The &#8220;real&#8221; cantaloupe and no it&#8217;s not a rock melon, packed for 2005)<\/li>\n<li>3 Shisho (Botanical Interests, 2008)<\/li>\n<li>3 Trevisio Radicchio (Johnny&#8217;s, 2008.\u00a0 I love bitter things)<\/li>\n<li>3 Alibi Pickling Cucumbers (Territorial, 2006.\u00a0 I was making cornichon with them but I can&#8217;t keep them crunchy enough.\u00a0 This year we&#8217;ll use them as slicers if they come up)<\/li>\n<li>6 Window Box Basil (Renee&#8217;s 2007.\u00a0 I thought we had more seeds than that)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I like the idea of using up as many of the seeds as we can.\u00a0 The Heirloom Tomato mix has been a reliable producer but at 5 years old I&#8217;m starting to worry.\u00a0 And most of the mail order seeds have come from the north, be it Maine or Oregon.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see how our closer-to-tropical latitude treats anything that actually sprouts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s getting warmer.\u00a0 The loquats are yellowing, the stone fruit have leaves, the citrus season is done, for us anyhow.\u00a0 It&#8217;s time to think about the garden.\u00a0 Actually, it may be a month late.\u00a0 In what may be my fourth community garden in four different zones in the past seven years or so I feel [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[10,6],"class_list":["post-18","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-garden","tag-sprouts"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=18"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":107,"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18\/revisions\/107"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=18"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=18"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
