{"id":163,"date":"2009-08-18T03:02:21","date_gmt":"2009-08-17T19:02:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/?p=163"},"modified":"2011-07-31T18:27:01","modified_gmt":"2011-08-01T01:27:01","slug":"public-space-and-celebrity-sightings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/2009\/08\/public-space-and-celebrity-sightings\/","title":{"rendered":"Public space and celebrity sightings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In yet another example of our cutting-edge sensibilities, we attended the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laurbanrangers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">LA Urban Rangers<\/a>&#8216; excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laurbanrangers.org\/content\/events\/index_malibu.html\" target=\"_blank\">tour of Malibu&#8217;s public beaches<\/a> on the very same day that the <a title=\"LAT Urban Rangers article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/news\/la-ca-rangers16-2009aug16,0,1867379.story\" target=\"_blank\">LA Times profiled the Rangers<\/a>. Thanks, local paper, for saving me the effort of explaining the concept.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the lovely scenery and temperate morning, the highlight of the tour was watching the legendary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgold.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Huell Howser<\/a> at work:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-164\" title=\"Local broadcast legend and crew\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/img_1168-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Local broadcast legend and crew\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/img_1168-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.stemwedel.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/img_1168-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>He was definitely a hands-on TV producer, steering and positioning his interview subjects. I guess that shouldn&#8217;t surprise me &#8211; he&#8217;s old school! He even made us gather &#8217;round and wave at the camera. I sorta wonder what the tour was like without his direction and presence.<\/p>\n<p>The Rangers were way fun and the tour was super-educational.
